volunteer with us
Join our team and make an impact. We accept applications all year round.
Why JOIN?
Careers in Colour (CiC) was founded in late 2021 to address the persistent under-representation of people of colour in Australia’s senior leadership.
Since then, we’ve run community-building events across sectors to foster dialogue on racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity in workplaces and empower individuals to drive change within their own spheres.
As we move into our next phase, our team is growing and we are seeking volunteers to join our team this year to support the delivery of initiatives under our CiC Strategy 2026-28.
Location: Australia-wide remote role with a preference for Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne-based applicants.
These are volunteer opportunities. If you are motivated to contribute to a more equitable future of work, we would love to hear from you. Please review the role descriptions and submit your application via the form below.
We’re committed to an accessible and inclusive selection process. If you require any adjustments to support your application or interview, please let us know. This may include flexibility in interview times, additional time or sensory considerations.

Lead research projects and draft articles on topics relating to anti-racism in Australian workplaces.
Coordinate CiC’s online blog series by engaging with and reviewing input from guest contributors.
Elevate CiC’s voice in Australian policy discourse about anti-racism by representing the organisation at external events and in the media.
Provide regular input for CiC’s newsletter and social media including explainers about anti-racism and diversity concepts.
Support CiC’s fundraising efforts through reviewing draft grant submissions.
Assist with organising CiC’s in-person events (if located in their city of residence).
Provide relevant support on CiC’s Alliance (a coalition of Employee Advocacy Group leaders working on racial and cultural diversity in Australian workplaces), such as helping develop resources for EAG leaders and contributing to research that builds the evidence base for the sector.
Attend regular meetings with CiC’s leadership team and broader volunteer team to report on portfolio updates and to collaborate on other initiatives.
Supervise and provide regular feedback to CiC volunteers as required.
Help shape the culture and direction of one of Australia's leading communities advancing racial and ethnic equity in workplaces.
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week.
Location: Australia-wide remote role, with a preference for Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne-based applicants.
What you’ll gain:
Hands-on experience contributing to policy research and writing outreach for a mission-driven organisation and network.
Opportunity to build your portfolio and showcase your research and policy work in a real-world setting.
Connect and collaborate with a community of like-minded individuals (within CiC and beyond, including other leaders and organisations) passionate about advancing equity, inclusion and diversity in workplaces.
Shape the strategy and culture of a growing national organisation making a tangible impact on workplace equity.
This is a volunteer opportunity - if you’re enthusiastic about research, policy, advocacy, and supporting a more equitable future, we’d love to hear from you!
